New blog!!!

Maybe you remember my decision I made a few weeks ago? It was about calling myself an art journaler who likes to do scrapbooking instead of a scrapbooker who likes art journaling. Well, it felt good having decided this! And I thought that is was a good thing to start a new blog to support this decision.
Somehow, I didn't feel happy with the old name any longer because my work wasn't that 'scrappy' any more. No more 'scrap creations' but more about art!
So from now on, you can follow me and my art HERE on:

I hope to see you there!!!!

Still here...

Oh my...is it already more than a week ago since I blogged here? Well, I'm still here..don't worry!
I have been busy this week but not all had something to do with art journaling or scrapbooking, although a big part had something to do with paint...I painted the hall! And I painted a wall in the living room.
And I couldn't stand the mess in the shed any longer. (I hope this is the right translation for the little wooden house with all our bikes, tools and other you-never-know-if-you-will-need-it things.) So I spent a complete afternoon to clean up the mess, which says a lot about the mess in our shed from 2 by 3 meters...9 bikes included!!! And I washed the curtains and the covers of the cushions on our couch...

But...I did something crafty too this week. I made six birthday cards, mixed media style. I used the back of some cheap photoframes for these:

A few weeks ago I made this piece (8,5x11 inch):

I made it for Lena, who celebrated her 50th birthday yesterday, so now I can show you my gift.

And I have been working on my new blog and new blog design this week. I hope I can direct you to my new blog soon, but please...a little more patience!

Work in progress and new journal page!

I made a new art journal page for A Year in the Life of an Art Journal:

Made for the prompt of January 30th.
Prompt: Time
Lyrics: Butterflies & Hurricanes by Muse
Technique: Numbers
Background: glimmermist
Images: Collage of magazine cut puts.
Letters: Tumble Fish Studio

And I have some 'work in progress' to show you. It will cost a lot of time to complete it and I'm not even sure how it will turn out in the end....
If you know the fabric covers of Teesha Moore's art journals you might see something in all the little pillows...Otherwise you might wonder 'what on earth is she planning to do with all these pincushions?!'...
To be continued!

A Year in the Life of an Art Journal: three pages!

I will start this blogpost with my latest decision..or maybe it is just a logical step? From now on I see myself as an art journaler who loves to do some scrapbooking instead of a scrapbooker who loves to art journal! It's just a matter of underlining, accents, emphasis...or to be simple: what do I love the most?
Yep, art journaling!
This means that I will focus even more on art journaling from now on. My first step was finding a great blog with lots of inspirational prompts: A Year in the Life of an Art Journal ! I was bloghopping, visited Marit's blog and saw her art journal pages, inspired by their prompts. I hopped on over to that blog and the latest prompt inspired me right away: Love, lyrics and silhouettes!
A Year in the Life of an Art Journal has a new prompt every two weeks. After finishing my page for the latest prompt I immediately went to the one before...and the one before that...
So I created three pages in two days..which is a lot for me! Right now I'm working on page number four...

Here they are:
Prompt: Love
Song: Not Broken by the Goo Goo Dolls
Technique: Silhouettes

Background: acrylic paint
Image: magazine cut out, colored with Sakura Glaze pens

Prompt: Confidence Shot
Song: Strut by Adam Lambert
Technique: Eyeshadow (Ok, I skipped this one..)

Background: acrylic paint
Fire-stamps: Jenni Bowlin
Letters: Tumble Fish Studio
Image: collage of magazine cut outs

Prompt: I'm beautiful
Song: Real Love by Regina Spektor
Technique: Self-portrait

Background: glimmermist
Images: magazine cut outs

Ok, my hubby does look a bit green..sick...on this page. I always add some extra color to faces on my journal pages, like red lips, blue eyes and some great eyelashes. When I tried this at hubby's face I knew I shouldn't have...so I tried to correct it by wiping it away immediately...and damaged the picture a bit...
Note to self: don't pimp my own pictures !
Still, I had so much fun creating this page...that's obvious!
I'll be back soon with page number four and more...

Can you believe this??!!!

My name being mentioned in an internet radio show, in the same list with names as Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, Donna Downey and Teesha Moore???!!!! Three women which I sooooo admire because of their art??!!!
I couldn't untill the moment I heard it!
Julie and Donna were guests in The Paperclipping Roundtable episode of this week. This episode as about art journaling. The show is hosted by Noell Hyman. The other guest was Nancy Nally. One guest was missing...me! (lol) I was invited to the show too but unfortunately I couldn't make it at the recording time...
Can you believe I missed my chance to be able to discuss art journaling with Julie Balzer and Donna Downey??!! Anyway, I would probably have been way too nervous to say a word!

Here is the link to the show: Not That Deep-PRT 062. On the end of the show I was one of the picks of the week! It is worth it to listen to the complete show if you are interested in art journaling. If you just want to listen to the Picks of the Week, you can move the slide to the last 10 minutes of the show.

New art journal: Inspired by Donna Downey!

Lasr week Ilse Hobbelen showed us a great tutorial on Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's blog about making your own art journal! I really wanted to try something like this for some time now, so this was what I needed.
The tutorial is great, with clear step by step instructions. Ilse made her art journal with a leather cover. I made one with red bookcloth because I didn't have any leather. I didn't make the rounded flap either.
I folded five signatures of heavy weight watercolor paper of 30x24 cm so each page is 15x24 cm.
And now comes the fun part...Inspired by Donna Downey's inspiration journal with extra signature I created some extra pages of a much smaller size in between the other pages.

(I used pieces of watercolor paper, where Donna used big manila tags.)

I love to watch Donna Downey's Inspiration Wednesday video's, seeing the proces of how she creates her art journal pages. So I decided to use this journal for trying all the techniques and pages she shows in these video's.
Here is my first page, inspired by this video:

The double page was just a little bit too big for my scanner so on the bottom of the page, one line of bricks is missing in the picture...
I used the Bricks template van The Crafters Workshop, with acrylic paint. I sponged the paint on the page.
I  slightly colored the seams with a very soft pencil and rubbed this with my finger. I added the text with paintmarkers. I finished the page by distressing it with my Stazon black inkpad.
As you can see I didn't put the small pages between each big page but added these randomly through the art journal...so this page doesn't have the extra page in between.

I'm working on another page right now...hope to be able to show you this one soon!

Playing with collage sheets!

I have been playing with some collage sheets from Nancy Baumiller. I love her colorful art and using her collage sheets make it so easy to create an art journal page. I used Wild Things and Borders & Bits. Just print, cut out and glue down, do the Big Paintmarker Attack and add some journaling or a quote!
This is a double page I made in my small art journal. The pages are only 20x13cm, but if you do a double page you get 40x13cm! So fun and challenging! This time, instead of a landscape doublepage, I did it in portrait size:

I did a page in my big A4-sized art journal too:

And I got some ATC's to show you, now the swaps have ended.
The theme for the swap at Scrapfever was 'Shoes'.
I made 7 ATC's, more or less the same, so I will show you one:

The background is from the same set of collage sheets as mentioned above: Wild Things.
I made my own mask of a shoe print, stamped it and embossed with black embossingpowder. With a white paintmarker I added some extra lines.
I edited the background and the text first (in Photoshop) and embossed after printing the ATC's.
Here are the ATC's I got in return:

For a swap at Scrappers Anonimous, with the theme 'Birds', I made these:

Again, I used some collage sheets from Nancy Baumiller: Zetti Bird Junction.
I created the ATC's in Photoshop first and added some accents with my paintmarkers and Neocolors after printing.
Here are the ATC's I got in return:

And of course, I did some collage 'thing' with magazine cut outs!
But I can't show you yet....
So, here's a sneak peek:
